Kennet in winter

Friends of Kennet

Short Boat Kennet is one of the last unconverted boats which worked on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and is on the National Register of Historic Vessels. It has displays about the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and its heritage in its hold.

The Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society, which looks after Kennet and takes it to events connected with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and arranges public access as required, has formed Friends of Kennet in line with the Society’s aims, to ensure the future of the boat being retained as an historic craft to promote the heritage and traditions of the canal. The Friends of Kennet help to maintain and move the boat. Training sessions in boat handling and other facets of canal life are planned.

The Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society has already invested some £2,000 in ensuring the integrity of the hull and general maintenance, but requires further funds for the annual running costs of Kennet so that they can continue to use it in promoting the Heritage of Canal Transport.
